Frequently asked questions

What is a docerola?

It is a 12-string guitar strung in pairs: six pairs tuned to the same pitch, the way the requinto in Regional Mexican music calls for.

Do they come strung in pairs from the factory?

Yes. Every Karma docerola arrives strung in pairs, gauge 10-47, ready to play. Always use gauge 10-47: heavier gauges must not be installed.

Which series is right for me?

There are seven series, from lowest to highest price: Alpha (Starter), Spirit (Studio), Lotus (Performance), X (Artist), Enso (Pro), Infinity (Pro Stage) and Legend (Pro Deluxe). The comparison table on this page shows the woods, bracing, preamp, Bridge Doctor and case of each one side by side.

Which ones come with a Bridge Doctor?

It comes standard on the Spirit, Lotus, X, Enso, Infinity and Legend docerolas. The Alpha does not include it, but you can add it as an add-on from the product page.

Which ones include a hardshell case?

The X, Enso, Infinity and Legend series. For Alpha, Spirit and Lotus the hardshell case is sold separately: see the case.

What does “pre-order” mean?

Models marked as pre-order are paid for today and ship on the estimated date shown on each product. They have the same return terms as any other product.

Do you ship to Mexico and the United States?

Yes. Shipping in Mexico is free on orders from $999 MXN. Delivery to the United States takes 7 to 14 business days and the cost is calculated at checkout.

What warranty do they have?

12 months against manufacturing defects, for purchases made at karmaguitars.mx or karmaguitars.us. To keep the warranty valid you must register your instrument within 30 days of receiving it: register your warranty.

Is there a discount if I buy a docerola and a guitar?

Yes. The docerola + guitar set in the same series and color costs 12% less than buying them separately: see sets.

SO WHY A KARMA DOCEROLA?

Pro Features from the Factory

Double-X Bracing System

Internal top reinforcement on the Spirit, Lotus, Enso and Legend docerolas, built to handle the tension of unison pairs and project with power.

Carbon Fiber Reinforcement

We've reinforced the neck with carbon fiber, available from the Spirit Collection® up. Carbon fiber helps keep the neck straight and solid.

Premium Volute

We introduce the volute starting with the Lotus Collection®. And it's not there for looks. That's the most fragile point on any docerola, where the wood changes direction and where guitars tend to break.

Factory Unison Pairs

All of our docerolas come strung in unison pairs at the same pitch, the way the requinto in Regional Mexican music calls for, and set up with 10-47 gauge, the right balance of tension and brightness so it sounds powerful without punishing the guitar.

Reinforced Bridge

Two bolts with nuts are installed through the bridge and the top, fastening them mechanically. The head of each bolt sits in a counterbore and is covered with a mother-of-pearl inlay, so it is hidden from the outside.

Bridge Doctor System

A system that sits inside the guitar, mounted under the bridge, with an adjustable pressure post that rests against the tail block and applies leverage to keep the top flat and stable. Standard on the Spirit, Lotus, X, Enso, Infinity and Legend docerolas.
